The Calim-Hari!

Natasha's Calim-Hari is a first place winner in our 2013 Foodimal Contest!  

Natasha, age 10, from Toronto, says her calim-hari ('haricots' is French for green beans) swims in the big oceans and eats polka-dotted dragons.  He is quite friendly but if you make him angry he will chew you up!  Natasha and her father had a great time shopping for new fruits and vegetables and giggling over their strange combinations.  And best of all - they got to eat them!

How to make a calim-hari

You will need:

  • 1 dragon fruit
  • 2 scotch bonnet peppers
  • 8-10 green beans


  1. Use the dragon fruit for the body.
  2. Attach two scotch bonnets to the dragon fruit spikes for eyes.
  3. Arrange the green beans into squid-like tentacles around the dragon fruit body.
