Kids Recipe Challenge winning recipe: 3rd Place!

Sophie, in Kitchener, loves this nutritious and colourful lunch.

Instead of buying packaged convenience food containers, make your own! Pack the different parts of this “sandwich” for lunch at school. It’s a little messy because you don’t need any utensils - but that’s why kids would love making this recipe.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Makes: 5 mini sandwiches

Tips

  1. Put leftovers away within 2 hours or sooner if they are in a warm location.

Ingredients

Tuna in oil

1 small can (85 g)

Leaf lettuce

2 leaves

Mustard or relish (optional)

1 tsp (5 mL)

Whole grain crackers

10

Directions

  1. Wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Clean all countertops and equipment used for food preparation.
  2. Drain can of tuna, reserving one teaspoon of the oil.
