Parmesan Carrot Fries

Grace in grade 3 from Metcalfe, says these fries are fun to dip and very tasty. Get the kids to help roll the carrot sticks in the breadcrumb mixture and line them up like soldiers; perfect for small hands.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Serves: 4 to 6 

Tips:

  1. For a healthier alternative try mixing some plain Greek yogurt with a bit of Dijon mustard instead of the Ranch dressing.

Ingredients

Carrots

Canola or olive oil

3 Tbsp (45 mL)

Seasoned breadcrumbs      

1/2 cup (125 mL) 

Grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup (60 mL)

Ranch salad dressing or dip, optional  

 

Directions

1. Wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Clean all countertops and equipment used for food preparation.

2. Gently rinse carrots under cool running water and scrub with a clean vegetable brush.

3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

4. Peel the carrots if desired. Cut them into sticks and place in large bowl. Toss with oil to coat.

5. In a shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs and cheese. Roll carrot sticks into breadcrumb mixture and place on parchment paper lined baking sheet.

6. Roast in 400°F (200°C) oven for about 20 minutes or until golden and tender.
