Kids Recipe Challenge Winning Recipe: 2nd Place!  [School day snacks: Grades 4 to 6]

This simple and delicious snack is easy to make and enjoy. Maya, from Windsor, thinks kids will like this recipe because the ingredients go really well together and it is fun to make.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 2 minutes

Makes: 1 bagel 


  1. To keep the bagel crisp, you can melt the cheese in a toaster oven in a small baking pan.


Multigrain bagel

1 thin

Cheddar cheese

1 slice (25 g)

Small apple, cored and sliced


Grated carrots

1/4 cup (60 mL)

Raisins or dried cranberries                             

2 Tbsp (30 mL) 

Avocado, sliced (optional)

1/2 unit 


  1. Toast bagel and place halves on plate. Place apple slices on bagel and cut cheese into strips to place on top of apple slices. Microwave for about 30 seconds or until cheese is melted. 
  2. Sprinkle with carrots and raisins. Top with avocado, if using.
