Simran, from Mississauga, loves this recipe because of its unexpected crunch and surprising sweetness.
Here’s a combination of textures and flavours for a snack idea. Kids love bagels and cream cheese and this version has the crunch of walnuts and apple kissed with a sweet touch of maple syrup. Fun, delicious and nutritious!

For added calcium and protein, you can substitute ricotta or cottage cheese for cream cheese.

Try using an English muffin for the bagel.

Instead of walnut pieces, try using pecans, pumpkin or sunflower seeds.

Directions

Wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Clean all countertops and equipment used for food preparation.

Gently rinse apple under cool running water. First quarter then slice the apples.

Slice bagel in half crosswise and toast, if desired.

Spread cream cheese on the inside of each half of the bagel.

Top with walnut pieces and press lightly into cream cheese.

Top each bagel with apple slice then drizzle with maple syrup and serve.
