Hungry Kids Sundae

The kids of Healthy Habits Group in Sarnia like how healthy, colourful and easy this is to prepare. It’s a fun group snack that allows everyone to use their creativity to make a unique creation.

This fun fruit filled snack plays on the “sundae” theme with a healthy twist. Cut the fruit and prepare the ingredients and then let kids play with this healthy sundae bar.

  1. You can substitute a whole apple or banana if you don’t want to use both. Try adding other favourite fruits like blueberries, chopped strawberries, blackberries or raspberries for a variety of colour and taste.

Ingredients

Apple

1/2

Small red or green grapes 1/2 cup (125 mL)
Ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp (1 mL)

Banana

1/2

Raisins or dried cranberries

1/4 cup (50 mL)

Low fat vanilla yogurt

1/2 cup (125 mL) 

Low fat granola

1/3 cup (75 mL) 

Graham cracker, coarsely crushed

Directions

  1. Wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Clean all countertops and equipment used for food preparation.    
  2. Rinse apple, grapes and banana under cool running water.  Core and chop the apple. Place in a bowl, sprinkle with cinnamon and stir.
  3. Chop the banana, then add into a bowl with grapes and raisins. Top with yogurt and sprinkle with granola.
  4. Top with graham cracker to serve
